Who we are

Inaugural game - team photo

The Winston-Salem Wolfhounds is a local Gaelic (Irish) Football club which helps promote traditional Irish sports and culture in the Winston Salem community. The club – which achieved Non-Profit Status in March of 2015 – was officially founded in January 2015 by Timothy Cronin but began its journey in January 2014.

The inaugural game for the club was against Raleigh Cú Chulainn at the Poteat Field (Wake Forest University) in Winston-Salem, NC on April 27th 2014. We played 11 v 11 because we did not have enough players need to play 13 v 13…but it was a start.

The club is a junior level club competing in Gaelic Football and Hurling in the South East Division of the North American County Board (NACB) of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

The goal of the club is to promote teamwork, a sense of community, Irish cultural understanding and general fitness. The club is a community based club and is open to people of all ages, genders and fitness levels.
